"It Must Be Because I’m Lovable, Charming and Intelligent" Says William Shatner. We Say, Fair Enough!

"It Must Be Because I’m Lovable, Charming and Intelligent" Says Bill Shatner. Fair Enough!

We love The Shat, I mean, we've made that abundantly clear over the years. It's more than just love, it's also admiration for a man who has never outstayed his welcome in Hollywood. Some may say that he has, but we would argue that Bill simply morphs into another form of himself to stay relevant. You could call him one of the true Hollywood shape-shifters that takes the form of what's necessary to stay in popular culture. In a recent interview with Collider, Bill called it "Survival" and of course made a self-mocking joke about it.

Maybe that's what gives him his true staying power in the popular conscience. He doesn't take himself too seriously. Bill also gives his thoughts on Chris Pine's performance as a young Kirk and if we'll see a Kirk Prime in Star Trek XII. Check out an excerpt from the Collider interview below.

Collider: Have you reflected at all about being an actor that’s never worn out his welcome?

William: That’s true. It must be because I’m lovable, charming and intelligent.

Allegiance, A New Musical From Star Trek TOS's George Takei. Details Emerge.

Back in August during Vegas Khhaann!, George Takei mentioned he was working on a new Broadway musical that focuses on the extreme hardship during the Japanese American internment camps of WWII. If you haven't read our coverage of Vegas Khhaann! day one, George talked about his own family's experience.  Including loosing their home and being kept in horse stalls at the Santa Anita race track in Southern California.  It was amazingly powerful stuff.  Now, more details about the musical have emerged with a story synopsis and George's co-star, Tony Award Winner Lea Salonga.

Allegiance is a new musical about love, family and heroism during the Japanese American internment, with music and lyrics by Jay Kuo and book by Jay Kuo and Lorenzo Thione, starring Tony Award (R) winning actress Ms. Lea Salonga and screen and TV icon, Mr. George Takei.

Star Trek TOS's Walter Koenig Set To Attend Austin, Atlanta, & Big Apple Comic-Cons

Walter Koenig Set To Attend Austin, Atlanta, & New York Comic-Cons

We had the great pleasure of seeing Walter Koenig at Vegas Khhaaan! this year. It seems though that Vegas isn't his only stop on the convention circuit. Walter is scheduled to appear in three Wizard World Comic-cons in the next three months. Starting off in the New York City, the Big Apple comic-con is set to begin on October 1st and run through the 3rd at the Penn Plaza Pavilion.

Next up, Walter will be heading down to our corner of the map and attending the Austin Comic-con set for November 12 through the 14th. We think (but don't quote us on it) that this is the first time Wizard World has had a comic-con here in Austin. Also scheduled to appear is Claudia Christian (Actress - Look; Babylon 5), Billy Dee Williams (Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back; Batman; Brian's Song), Mimi Rogers (Austin Powers; The X-Files; Someone to Watch Over Me; The Geena Davis Show; The Loop), James Marsters (Buffy The Vampire Slayer; Caprica; Torchwood; Smallville), Kelly Hu (X-Men 2; Scorpion King; The Tournament), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters; Oz; Heroes), Gil Gerard (Buck Rogers in the 25th Century), Erin Gray (Buck Rogers, Silver Spoons), and many more.

"Life After Trek" Podcast Premiere with Manu Intiraymi, Icheb From Star Trek Voyager

We’re extremely proud to announce a new feature here at Subspace Communique, a podcast called, “Life After Trek”. He shared his thoughts on the acting world, including who and what inspires him, and then gave us an inside look at his time on “Voyager”.

We had a great time talking with him, and hope you enjoy the podcast. We’d like to thank Manu for taking the time to talk with us and bringing us (and you) up to date with everything he’s been doing lately. Thanks Manu!

Plano, TX. Star Trek Fan Days To Feature Shatner, Frakes, Spiner, & Lloyd.

Plano, TX. Star Trek Fan Days To Feature Shatner, Frakes, Spiner, & Lloyd.

A new convention almost slipped passed our radar in our very own backyard. A production of C2 Ventures, Inc., Fan Days is one of the various cons operated by C2 in the Dallas Metroplex and just so happens to be Star Trek flavored this year. And, THAT happens to be our favorite flavor.

On board for the con are none other than William Shatner, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, & Christopher Lloyd. We're looking forward to Doc Brown Commander Kruge the most. Not that we don't adore the rest (I mean that Shat's going to be there, but Christopher Lloyd is a rare treat at conventions.

"I live my life as though I'm in a television show" Says William Shatner

"I live my life as though I'm in a television show" Says William Shatner

Well, maybe we fudged a little with that title... The Shat didn't actually say "I live my life as though I'm in a television show", Denny Crane did. According to a video published on NYTimes.com, Bill was blown away by that statement, adding "What a concept". The new video is the latest addition in the New York times "Screen Test" series, which is an interesting take on The Shat. To us, it seems more "personal". I put personal in quotes because with William Shatner, you never know if you're listening to Bill or Mr. Shatner or even the alter-alter-ego The Shat.

Star Trek TNG's LeVar Burton Is In Search Of Smart TV With Intel

Star Trek TNG's LeVar Burton Is In Search Of Smart TV With Intel

Our favorite Cheif Engineer is making his way to the Intel Developer's Forum in San Francisco again this year. Last Year, LeVar Burton opened the third day of the IDF by reminding attendees to keep dreaming.  Described as the "search for the next big thing", this year, he's working closely with Intel in a much wider role. In a marketing campaign to shed light on new TV technology, including sets with built in apps, intelligent search, & wireless technology, Levar stars in a short Youtube video and Intel invites you to follow him on twitter as he explorers the Smart TV Pavilion at IDF.

Trek Culture Movie Review: Chase Masterson In "Yesterday Was A Lie"

While we were at this year’s Vegas Khaaan!! we received a copy of “Yesterday Was a Lie” (featuring Deep Space Nine’s own Chase Masterson) to watch, enjoy, and review. We recently sat down and watched it (twice) and thought you might like to read about it.

It’s a psychological mystery/thriller in the style of the best film noir detective movies of the 1940’s. Written and directed by James Kerwin and starring Kipleigh Brown (Enterprise), Chase Masterson (DS9), John Newton, and Mik Scriba, this movie takes you on a stunning ride through fog filled alleys and moonlit city streets that will have you questioning reality at every turn.
