If you’re anywhere near Southern California and you don’t have plans for this coming weekend, you’re in luck. There’s a once in a lifetime event in Hollywood that you won’t want to miss! Star Trek’s Walter Koenig is being honored at the induction ceremony, at the Hollywood Walk of Fame, for his very own star . Not only that, but to add icing to the proverbial cake, there’s an entire weekend convention dedicated to the event!
Happy Birthday To Star Trek's Walter Koenig
We would like to wish a very happy birthday to our favorite navigator, Walter Koenig! As many of you know, Walter recently made the news with his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and honestly it couldn't have happened sooner. The well deserved honor has got to make this day even more special. We had the chance to talk to Walter last year at Austin Comic-con and he mentioned a few projects that should be releasing soon. You can learn more info about his two graphic novels "Raver" & "Things to Come" by clicking their respective links. You can also check out his official website here.
Walter Marvin Koenig was born September 14, 1936 in Chicago, IL. Before landing the role of Ensign Pavel Chekov, Walter worked on many series in the early days of TV including: Combat!, The Untouchables, Ben Casey, plus many others. The most notable being the short lived series The Lieutenant created by none other than Gene Roddenberry. Walter credits his work on The Lieutenant for playing a small role in landing Star Trek, but he also credits the series Mr. Novak.
Star Trek's Walter Koenig Talks "Things To Come"
Since Vegas Khhaaan! of last year, we've been waiting to get our hands on Walter Koenig's new projects; the graphic novels / comics "Things to Come" & "Raver". We talked to Walter back in November of last year about both works, on our "Life After Trek" podcast, and he reveled that both will be released this year. They'll be published by the independent comic house Bluewater Productions. Walter was recently interviewed by Ain't it Cool News where he gave more detail about each, as well as a fantastic bit of wisdom for the aspiring creatives out there.
"I think first of all perseverance, faith in yourself. You have to really have a passion and a belief that will stand the test of the myriad rejections that are bound to come unless you are extraordinarily gifted and recognized for it immediately, it’s a hard course to travel, but ultimately it’s a short life and you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do you know and I don’t believe, now more than ever, in a very pivotal and critical time in my life with events having taken a very tragic turn, I believe that you must live it fully and do what is important to you and if possible not to do what’s simply safe and comfortable you know." Walter continues; "If you are creative in any field in any capacity or if you have just a driving ambition in some area, I think you must acknowledge that and respect it."
Star Trek's Walter Koenig To Receive Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame
In breaking news today, Walter Koenig will finally & deservedly receive a star on the world famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. Walter is the last of the TOS main cast to receive a star on "The Walk", for which he had been previously passed over despite a wide-spread fan run internet campaign. All we can say is congratulations to our favorite Russian navigator. It's been a long time coming, but we're glad you finally get your dues. You can also check out our interview with Walter here, plus his official website.
Also included in the Television category are "Batman" star Adam West, "One Day at a Time" co-star Valerie Bertinelli, "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening, "CSI: SVU" co-star Mariska Hargitay, "Everybody Loves Raymond" co-star Patricia Heaton, and "CSI" / "China Beach" co-star Marg Helgenberger.

I had no problem putting myself in all of those situations." LeVar then goes into detail about his most difficult moment on the series.

Life After Trek Podcast Episode 5 Featuring Walter Koenig
We’re pleased to announce the fifth episode of our podcast called, “Life After Trek” featuring Walter Koenig. Walter is our very first interview with an Original Series actor and we're super pleased to have him on the show. As you may know, we live blogged from the floor of Austin Comic-con and that's where we recorded the interview with Walter. We would like to give a big thanks to WizardWorld for having a fantastic convention and giving us access to get such a fantastic interview. If there's a WizardWorld Comic-con anywhere near you, be sure to stop by. You won't be disappointed.
Austin Comic-con Post Convention Wrap-Up
Wizard World’s first Austin Comic Con is in our past, but not forgotten. We were so excited to have a con in our own backyard finally. Going home each night (instead of a hotel room) after live blogging a convention is a treat. There was so much to see and so many interesting Q&A’s to listen to. Tons of artists, as you would expect, but quite a few celebrities were in attendance too. Here at Subspace Communique (no surprise) we were most excited about seeing Walter Koenig. He was so gracious that he took some time to do an interview with us. We’ll be posting that in our Life After Trek series ASAP! For now, here’s some video of his Q&A panel.
