September 8th 1966, Star Trek's First Episode Airs

On September 8th, 1966 an unknown science fiction series debuted with it's inaugural episode. The show was "Star Trek" later known as "Star Trek: The Original Series" and the episode was "The Man Trap".

Not the original pilot, the second pilot, or even the intended first episode, "The Man Trap" starts with The Enterprise arriving at planet M-113 to provide supplies and routine medical exams to Doctor Robert Crater and his wife, Nancy, whom Dr. Leonard McCoy was once romantically involved with. M-113 has been home to the Craters for five years, during which time they have conducted an archaeological survey of the planet's ruins. They are the only known inhabitants of the planet.

"I know the real William Shatner.” Says William Shatner

"I know the real William Shatner.” Says William Shatner

We apparently love to write about William Shatner as of late. Yes, he's the Captain of the "original" Enterprise. Sure, he's working on umpteen different television shows as we speak, but there's more to why were fascinated with The Shat. He seems to be a phenomenon. Who is the real William Shatner though? Is it the actor, the icon, the pitchman, the equestrian, the author, or the workaholic? It seems, he's all of them combined.

In a fantastic article from the New York Times, journalist Pat Jordan spent some time with The Shat in Kentucky and chronicled his two day adventure. Much like the "Mind Meld" documentary that was released 10 or so years ago, this article captures a different, more "realistic" side of one of the most famous icons of the last 50 years. Check out a few amazing quote excepts form the article below.

When asked if he has any regret throughout his career, Shatner responded. “Regret is the worst human emotion, If you took another road, you might have fallen off a cliff. I’m content.”

Star Trek Youtube Video Round-up: Shats & Giggles Edition

We've expressed our affection for The Shat so many times here on our humble website. We've written many an article, talked about his awesomeness in detail, and covered his attempt to take over the world, one TV show at a time. One thing we haven't discussed is his magnetic personality. Well maybe we have, but that's not the point. From playing Captain Kirk to playing himself, The Shat is simply The Shat. He's a force to be reckoned with and his simple smirk and strange halting laugh is a weapon he often uses from his arsenal. Many a beast has been soothed by it and many Orion Slave girls have fallen victim to it. That's why we give you another Star Trek Youtube video round-up: The Shats & Giggles Edition

This is simply the quintessential Kirk laugh.

Scott Bakula Attending Dragon Con This Year. Plus, The Full Star Trek Guest List.

Dragon Con is definitely one of those conventions we would love to make the pilgrimage for.  It seems that every year more and more Trek stars are appearing, and from what we understand, you actually get to approach them without the goon squad attacking.  You know what I mean...  Anyway, if you're not familiar with Dragon Con, it's the largest multimedia & popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the US. The con is set for launch September 3rd and runs thru the 6th. Several of our favorites are appearing this year, including Scott Bakula!  This would be a rare treat and we would love to be in attendance.

We've gathered together a comprehensive list of all of the Trek stars appearing this year.  Check it out below.

Two Years Ago Today, The Trek Community Lost A Dear Friend... Star Trek: The Experience

As many of you have probably read before, we had the pleasure of visiting Star Trek: The Experience twice during it's run. Both times, we unequivocally felt like we were home among family and friends. Unfortunately, on September 1st, 2008, Star Trek: The Experience closed it's doors for the last time and we're here to mark the two year anniversary of our dear departed friend.

A Brief History of ST:TE

Star Trek: The Experience was a US$70 million permanent Star Trek-themed attraction at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel, owned by Cedar Fair Enterprise, containing shops styled after the Deep Space 9 Promenade, a restaurant styled after Quark's, The History of the Future Museum (which was a large collection of props and artifacts), and the Klingon Encounter and Borg Invasion 4D rides. The store was the largest Star Trek-themed store in the world.

Here are the deets from the Mondo site:

William Shatner Says "There is no doubt... there is life out there" While Launching Yet Another TV Show.

William Shatner Says "There is no doubt... there is life out there" While Launching Yet Another TV Show.

William Shatner apparently has another show in the works that's premiering this fall?! Called William Shatner's "Weird or What?" the show will look at extraordinary events and try to explain them scientifically or logical. What we would like someone to explain is, when does William Shatner sleep? This is the third television show he's premiering this fall! Along with "Aftermath", "Bleep My Dad Says", and now "Weird or What?", The Shat is also still working on "Raw Nerve" while filming a documentary about all of the Star Trek captains called simply "The Captains". One thing that did just cross our minds, maybe The Shat is one of those new-fangled day walking vampires. When we saw him up-close at Vegas Khhaaan, he was awfully sparkly.

Star Trek "Trash" Is Another Trek Fans Treasure

Bouncing around the web today, we ran across a facebook post by one of our Trek friends, many of you may know her as @starfleetmom on twitter.  We had the awesome opportunity to hang with starfleetmom at Vegas Khhaaan! and had a blast with her and all of the gang.  Anyway, back to the point of this article, starfleetmom posted a link to a Trek item she's selling on a site called Yardsellr.com.  It's a really cool poster featuring Data & The Doctor from Voyager complete with signatures of Robert Picardo & Brent Spiner.  Yardsellr.com is something we'd never heard of and the idea of finding hidden Trek treasure was more than we could pass up.
