Star Trek’s Nichelle Nichols To Appear At “Women Of Sci-Fi” Convention This Weekend, Jan 29-30

If you are near the Dallas Texas area this weekend (January 29 & 30, 2011) be sure to stop by the “Women Of Sci-Fi” convention that’s being held in Plano, a Dallas suburb. You will get the chance to see and hear a ton of great female actors from the sci-fi genre; including Star Trek’s own Nichelle Nichols (Uhura). If you aren’t in the area be sure to watch our site over the weekend because we’ll be there live blogging all the good stuff for you, so you won’t miss a thing.

This isn’t a Star Trek convention per se, but who could resist the amazing line up they have going. Chances are if you like Trek, then you dig other sci-fi shows too. Some of the other shows being represented at the con are; Battlestar Galactica, V, Firefly, Buck Rogers, Stargate, Stargate Universe, Smallville, and more.

Morena Baccarin, Tricia Helfer and Katee Sackhoff are among the actresses appearing at the upcoming Sci-Fi Expo celebrating “Women of Sci-Fi” in Plano, Texas. The two-day event will be Jan. 29-30 in the Plano Convention Center, 2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway.

Star Trek's Nichelle Nichols, Larry Nemecek, & Daryl Frazetti Are Heading To Plano, TX. This Month

Another Scifi / Star Trek con is heading to the Plano Center in Plano, TX. Called “Women of Sci-Fi” and presented by Scifi Expo the convention is set for the weekend of January 29/30th. Aptly named, the con will focus on Scifi actresses from all across the genre, including Star Trek's own Nichelle Nichols. If that isn't enough, our good friends Larry Nemecek & Daryl Frazetti will also be appearing / presenting at the con. No news yet on the presentation topics, but we'll let you know as soon as we get word from Larry and Daryl.

We're definitely looking forward to the show, Scifi Expo put on a fantastic con back in October with their Star Trek Fan days, which we covered extensively. If you're in the DFW area, be sure to swing by and if you can't make it, we'll be there with live coverage from the con

Check out the full guest list and details below.

Austin Comic-con Starts Tomorrow With Star Trek's Walter Koenig & A Myriad Of Other Stars

The Austin Comic-con is upon us and is shaping up to be quite a show. Star Trek's Walter Koenig will be in attendance with a full Q&A scheduled for Saturday. We'll be there all three days live blogging the event.  We're a little sad that only one Trek star is in attendance, but The Hulk, The Six Million Dollar Man, & The Soup Nazi will be there to dazzle and entertain. We're actually looking forward to the Lou Ferrigno Q&A. We loved the Incredible Hulk, but we're extra fond of Lou's role on "King of Queens". Ya know, he played himself. Good Stuff. Be sure to check back starting tomorrow for our live coverage.

New Guests Added To Star Trek Fan Days In Plano, TX

We're really looking forward to the upcoming Star Trek Fan Days in Plano. We'll be there both days covering the event with tweets, photos, and maybe even a little video thrown into the mix. We just got word from our friend Larry Nemecek that both he and Daryl Frazetti will be attending and speaking at the event. Larry will be presenting his "Star Trek: Between The Cracks" lecture & Daryl will present "Anthropology of Star Trek". As if that's not enough, it appears that our favorite Klingon, Michael Dorn has been added to the roster. Fan Days is shaping up to be a spectacular event. If you're anywhere near Plano, TX, you really should head down and join the fun. Check out the full details and roster below.

"Why Not Soften The End & Make It Uhura?" Star Trek's Nichelle Nichols Recalls Naming Her Iconic Role

"Why not soften the end and make it Uhura?" Star Trek's Nichelle Nichols Recalls Naming Her Iconic Role

The Hollywood Xpo is quickly approaching and it's set to launch with a bang. Friday October 15th, the con ends it's first day with a grand gala event called the The Hollywood Legacy Awards. The banquet and awards ceremony starts at 7pm and is honoring Star Trek's own Nichelle Nichols & Apollo XI astronaut Buzz Aldrin.

"The life she's led has changed the world for the better," says Hollywood Xpo producer Sky Conway. "It's a much different place from when Nichelle was walking on to film `Star Trek' and she had the security guard spitting on her, telling her she couldn't park in the lot all because of her skin color."

"And it's because of television, and in particular `Star Trek,' that helped change people's attitudes," he says. "It's amazing."

Starbase Indy: Nov 26-28, An Indianapolis Star Trek & Sci-fi Convention

Starbase Indy: Nov 26-28, An Indianapolis Star Trek & Sci-fi Convention

We can’t help but love the fan-run cons. From the better vantage points and intimacy that a small crowd offers to the camaraderie you feel walking around the floor, they are gems twinkling all throughout the country. Well, we’re here to tell you about another fan-run convention on the horizon. Starbase Indy will be holding their convention in Indianapolis, Nov 26-28. What better way to celebrate your Thanksgiving Day weekend than to be thankful for Star Trek? So far they have a mini Voyager “reunion” happening with their current lineup of guests, including; Tim Russ, Ethan Phillips, and Manu Intiraymi. Other guests include actor Deborah Downey (TOS, The Way to Eden), cartoonist/illustrator David Reddick (STARTREK.COM), and musical guests Five Year Mission.

Star Trek TOS's Walter Koenig Set To Attend Austin, Atlanta, & Big Apple Comic-Cons

Walter Koenig Set To Attend Austin, Atlanta, & New York Comic-Cons

We had the great pleasure of seeing Walter Koenig at Vegas Khhaaan! this year. It seems though that Vegas isn't his only stop on the convention circuit. Walter is scheduled to appear in three Wizard World Comic-cons in the next three months. Starting off in the New York City, the Big Apple comic-con is set to begin on October 1st and run through the 3rd at the Penn Plaza Pavilion.

Next up, Walter will be heading down to our corner of the map and attending the Austin Comic-con set for November 12 through the 14th. We think (but don't quote us on it) that this is the first time Wizard World has had a comic-con here in Austin. Also scheduled to appear is Claudia Christian (Actress - Look; Babylon 5), Billy Dee Williams (Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back; Batman; Brian's Song), Mimi Rogers (Austin Powers; The X-Files; Someone to Watch Over Me; The Geena Davis Show; The Loop), James Marsters (Buffy The Vampire Slayer; Caprica; Torchwood; Smallville), Kelly Hu (X-Men 2; Scorpion King; The Tournament), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters; Oz; Heroes), Gil Gerard (Buck Rogers in the 25th Century), Erin Gray (Buck Rogers, Silver Spoons), and many more.

Plano, TX. Star Trek Fan Days To Feature Shatner, Frakes, Spiner, & Lloyd.

Plano, TX. Star Trek Fan Days To Feature Shatner, Frakes, Spiner, & Lloyd.

A new convention almost slipped passed our radar in our very own backyard. A production of C2 Ventures, Inc., Fan Days is one of the various cons operated by C2 in the Dallas Metroplex and just so happens to be Star Trek flavored this year. And, THAT happens to be our favorite flavor.

On board for the con are none other than William Shatner, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, & Christopher Lloyd. We're looking forward to Doc Brown Commander Kruge the most. Not that we don't adore the rest (I mean that Shat's going to be there, but Christopher Lloyd is a rare treat at conventions.
