We apparently love to write about William Shatner as of late. Yes, he's the Captain of the "original" Enterprise. Sure, he's working on umpteen different television shows as we speak, but there's more to why were fascinated with The Shat. He seems to be a phenomenon. Who is the real William Shatner though? Is it the actor, the icon, the pitchman, the equestrian, the author, or the workaholic? It seems, he's all of them combined.

In a fantastic article from the New York Times, journalist Pat Jordan spent some time with The Shat in Kentucky and chronicled his two day adventure. Much like the "Mind Meld" documentary that was released 10 or so years ago, this article captures a different, more "realistic" side of one of the most famous icons of the last 50 years. We've expressed our affection for The Shat so many times here on our humble website. We've written many an article, talked about his awesomeness in detail, and covered his attempt to take over the world, one TV show at a time. One thing we haven't discussed is his magnetic personality. Well maybe we have, but that's not the point. From playing Captain Kirk to playing himself, The Shat is simply The Shat. He's a force to be reckoned with and his simple smirk and strange halting laugh is a weapon he often uses from his arsenal. Growing up in the 80's, my first introduction to Star Trek was the Original Series movies, starting with "Star Trek: The Motion Picture". I guess that really could be considered the late, late 70's, but I digress. One of my fondest memories, from that time, was seeing Nichelle Nichols for the first time as Lt. Uhura. She was one of the very first women I'd seen in any kind of authoritative role other than my mother. From then on out, Nichelle & Uhura have been an influence on my life and how I see and perceive women & the world. Interestingly enough, Nichelle saw Star Trek as a way to further her career on Broadway. She had no idea of the ride she was in for, or how she would help shape the 20th century and beyond.

In an interview with Desertnews.com, Nichelle recalls her early days in Trek and how she thought the show would be a "nice adjunct to my résumé."

William Shatner apparently has another show in the works that's premiering this fall?! Called William Shatner's "Weird or What?" the show will look at extraordinary events and try to explain them scientifically or logical. What we would like someone to explain is, when does William Shatner sleep? This is the third television show he's premiering this fall! Along with "Aftermath", "Bleep My Dad Says", and now "Weird or What?", The Shat is also still working on "Raw Nerve" while filming a documentary about all of the Star Trek captains called simply "The Captains". One thing that did just cross our minds, maybe The Shat is one of those new-fangled day walking vampires. When we saw him up-close at Vegas Khhaaan, he was awfully sparkly.

During our coverage of Vegas Khhaaan!, Walter Koenig hinted at his upcoming projects including, what we misunderstood to be a TV script, a Vampire story that will soon be released in comic book form called "Things to come", the new story focuses on a post-apocalyptic world where Vampires are the dominant species. The four part mini-series will be released in the spring of next year and will be published by Bluewater Productions.

The Shat is everywhere, man! He seems to be more popular in his 80th decade than ever before. From starting in two new television series this year alone to appearing at almost every convention this side of Ceti Alpha V (This IS CETI ALPHA V!), The Shat is a hot commodity. In preparation for his upcoming appearance at the Chicago Comic-con, Bill sat down for a phone interview with the Chicago Sun-Times to discuss his new show as well as his convention appearance.

William Shatner is no stranger to drawing fire, heck he usually does a quick ground roll and easily fires back.  Now, his upcoming show is drawing it's own fire from The Parents Television Council over the title "Bleep My Dad Says". According to an article written for the Yahoo TV Blog, The Council is asking major advertisers to not buy ad slots on the upcoming sitcom.

"Parents really do care about profanity when their kids are watching TV," said PTC President Tim Winter. "All parents? No, but something like 80 or 90 percent of parents. Putting an expletive in the title of a show is crossing new territory, and we can't allow that to happen on our watch."

The Cartoon Network's "The Super Hero Squad Show" is about to get Trekked with TOS & TNG alums.  George Takei, Jonathan Frakes, & Michael Dorn are set to lend their voices to the show's season two, already in production.  Star Trek isn't the only scifi franchise to be represented in season two, also participating are Mark Hamill (Star Wars), John Barrowman (Torchwood), James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica), Adam West (Batman), Kevin Sorbo (Hercules & Andromeda) and Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries).
