Star Trek XII Release Date Announced

Star Trek XII Release Date Announced

Those hoping for a 2011 release date for the sequel to J.J. Abrams "Star Trek" have to wait a bit longer.  Paramount announced a tentative June 29th, 2012 for the opening of Star Trek XII.  As reported by ComingSoon.com, it's the only movie scheduled for that time frame so far.  We're pretty excited that Paramount and Bad Robot didn't decide on a quick turnaround.  The sequel needs time to be made right.  Plus, we're pretty sure that J.J., Roberto Orci, and Alex Kurtzman have lots on their plates.

Star Trek's Nomination For Producers Guild Awards Could Be Oscar Precursor

According to an article in the LA Times, J.J. Abrams's "Star Trek" recieved a nomination for the Producers Guild of America Awards.  It seems that this year's PGAA is chock full'o SciFi.  "District 9" and "Avatar" are among the 10 nominees announced.  Apparently, the winner of the Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year film award is a precursor for some 13 Oscar best picture winners over the two last decadse.  We can dream can't we.  I mean, what are the chances that a Trek film would win let alone be nominated for an Oscar. What a crazy time to be a Trek fan!

'Star Trek' Digital Download Not Going Boldy With Some Fans

According to a recent article from IDG News Service, some Trek fans are experiencing difficulties in redeeming their digital download copy of the new J.J. Abrams "Star Trek".  Apparently when fans try to redeem the digital download from their Blu-ray version of the film, the code is coming back as already being used.  Yikes, ComputerWorld.com speculates that some of the codes may have been seeded in torrents around the web.

William Shatner And J.J. Abrams Do Lunch

According to a report from Wonderwall.msn.com, The Shat and J.J. recently "did lunch" at Spago (we made that last part up) and talked about The Shat returning to Trekdom.  Hmmm, we love The Shat, but we're not sure who we feel about shoehorning him into Star Trek XII.

What do you think?  Leave your comments below.

William Shatner is in talks to return to the world of Star Trek, despite attacking director J.J. Abrams for leaving him out of his 2009 blockbuster prequel.

30 Years Ago Today, Star Trek: The Motion Picture Hit The Big Screen

Today has very special meaning for us Trek fans, in 1979 the Robert Wise directed "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" hit the big screen.  This also has special meaning for me, ST:TMP is one of the first movies I actually remember seeing in the theater.  In fact, I can recall being with my family on a small vacation in Galveston, Texas and seeing the now famous rainbow styled poster at the movie theater.  It was tiny, single or double screened theater there in Galveston, but I remember being fascinated by the movie.  First thing I asked for that Christmas, Star Trek: The Motion Picture on LP.

Harlan Ellison Wants To Be A Part Of Star Trek XII

Harlan Ellison and his dispute over "The City on the Edge of Forever" episode of TOS is a story of Star Trek lore.  In fact, Harlan recently settled with CBS / Paramount over the issue of unpaid royalties for an undisclosed sum.  Now, the famous Scifi author has made it clear on his web bbs. (yup, we said bbs)

As reported by ComicBookMovie.com, Ellison wrote...

Captain Pyke May or May Not Return In Star Trek XII

Some headline, huh? Not that this isn't obvious... Anyway, one of our favorite Character's from Star Trek XI was the new Captain Pike played by Bruce Greenwood.

In Regards To Star Trek XII, Zoe Saldana Says "We're working on it,"

In a recent interview with the EOnline.com, Zoe Saldana reports that she received a call about the next Star Trek flick and "They were calling to see where we were going to be and how my schedule is next year."

She smiled, "Just that was worth me doing a cartwheel when I got the phone call, because I cannot wait to put on the suit and go back to the Enterprise, take my shirt off and be with all those yummy guys."

Star Trek XII Has To "Evolve" And "Go Deeper" Says J.J. Abrams

Star Trek XII Has To "Evolve" And "Go Deeper" Says J.J. Abrams

In a recent phone interivew with MTV Movie Blog, 'Star Trek' director J.J. Abrams talks about Star Trek XII needing to "evolve" and not become an "over the top, polemic, on-the-nose alegory".

Whew, we had to look a few of those up. Anyway, it's good to hear J.J. reassure us Trek fans that we're not in store for just any sequel.
