Happy Birthday To Star Trek Enterprise's Captain Archer, Scott Bakula

Happy Birthday To Star Trek Enterprise's Captain Archer, Scott Bakula

It's been a long road, gettin' from there to here... Okay, many of you are probably groaning by now, so I'll spare you the rest of the song, but who out there doesn't love the captain of the NX-01? I remember hearing about Enterprise shortly after the demise of Voyager and learning that Sam Beckett (AKA Scott Bakula) would be taking the reigns as the next captain (or first) of Starfleet's flagship. Oh man, I was stoked. You see, I absolutely loved Quantum Leap and remember thinking that Scott was the perfect choice. Through the unfortunately short run of Enterprise, Scott surely didn't disappoint. So, why not say happy birthday to the man who brought life to the first captain, Scott Bakula. He turns 57 today.

We've heard nothing but glowing compliments from Scott's former co-stars. Like, How he's the nicest guy in show business, or how "He's the calm voice of reason" according to Anthony Montgomery. Enterprise director LeVar burton had this to say about Scott; "His leadership is absolutely vital to the life and health of the show." Jolene Blalock continued; "I can go to him with any problem. He, I know, will have my back no matter what. " It's not often that you hear this kind of praise from other actors in the business we call show.

Happy Birthday To Star Trek Deep Space Nine's Captain Sisko, Avery Brooks

Happy Birthday To Star Trek Deep Space Nine's Captain Sisko, Avery Brooks

Today we get the chance to celebrate the birthday of a very original and special actor in all of Trekdom, the one and only Avery Brooks. Of course you know that Avery played the amazing Captain Benjamin Sisko on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. You know, the guy who punched Q in the face and then later poisoned an entire planet. That same man that can "live with" killing a Romulan Senator to bring that same pointed eared very suspicious race into the Dominion war. The Emissary and religious figure to millions of Bajorans and the same icon that later became a non-corporeall being and now calls the celestial temple his home. Anyway, you get the idea.

Deep Space Nine Now Available For Streaming On Netflix

Deep Space Nine Now Available On Netflix

Just as a quick reminder for all of you DS9 fans out there, Sisko and the crew are now available for your viewing pleasure on Netflix. If you haven't watched DS9, what are you waiting for? In fact, if you've never seen the series, here's the perfect chance to start one of the best and most diverse of the Trek series. We absolutely love Deep Space Nine for it's rich cast of characters and constant flux of political and religious undertones. It is a bit darker than the rest of Trekdom, but man, what a ride!

With the release of DS9, you can now watch every episode of Star Trek created. We wouldn't suggest trying that in a single sitting considering there is nearly 600 hours in total. Unless you have nothing to do and don't feel like sleeping for the next 25 days. All though, we can think of worse ways to spend your time.

Here's a bit of corporate speak from CBS & Netflix on the topic.

Neelix Is a "Fine Addition To The Pantheon Of Star Trek" Says Ethan Phillips

Neelix Is a "Fine Addition To The Pantheon Of Star Trek" Says Ethan Phillips

We fully admit that we love Voyager. In fact, as we mentioned recently, we've been watching Kate & the crew almost exclusively since its recent addition to Netflix. Kate Mulgrew is an amazing captain, Tuvok an awesome security officer, and Neelix is one fine Talaxian. We had the honor of seeing Ethan Phillips up close and personal at last year's Starbase Indy and he was a riot. Let's just put it this way, Ethan loves jokes. Old, new, clean, dirty, he's an equal opportunity jokester and he's freakin' hilarious. So, it's no wonder that in a recent interview with The Morton Report, Ethan revealed that he wished Neelix had "developed more of an outlandish sense of humor". We know that some of you out there aren't big Neelix fans, but as Scarlett Pomers once said; how can you hate big bird?

Wil Wheaton & Brent Spiner On "Big Bang Theory" October 13th

Wil Wheaton & Brent Spiner On "Big Bang Theory" October 13th

We have to admit that we're big fans of CBS's hit comedy The Big Bang Theory. What makes the show that much more awesome (how else can you describe it?), is the regular occurrence of Star Trek guest stars. I mean, who doesn't love to the see the likes of Wil Wheaton, George Takei, & LeVar Burton on the small screen. Now we can add Brent Spiner to that list. Brent will be appearing along with Sheldon's nemesis "Evil" Wil Wheaton on October 13th.

Star Trek’s Bio-Mechanical Type Devices Getting Closer Still

Star Trek’s Bio-Mechanical Type Devices Getting Closer Still

We all know about Geordi’s visor and Picard’s heart. Compared to the devices we have now the sci-fi versions are light years ahead…or are they? Thanks to a recent breakthrough, machines that directly link to living things (i.e. humans) could become a reality. All this fabulous new science has the potential to lead to super cool ways of repairing humans who need it. Now…how to keep it out of the Borg’s hands…hmmmm?...

Devices that connect with the human body’s processes are being explored for biological sensing or for prosthetics, but they typically communicate using electrons, which are negatively charged particles, rather than protons, which are positively charged hydrogen atoms, or ions, which are atoms with positive or negative charge.

“So there’s always this issue, a challenge, at the interface – how does an electronic signal translate into an ionic signal, or vice versa?” said lead author Marco Rolandi, a UW assistant professor of materials science and engineering. “We found a biomaterial that is very good at conducting protons, and allows the potential to interface with living systems.”
