Vegas Khaaan! Starts In A Couple Of Days. Full Schedule Available
Vegas Khhaaan! is upon us once again and we're as excited as a bunch of tribbles in a quadrotriticale silo. We've been thinking about Creation Entertainment's Las Vegas Star Trek convention since last year's amazing Khhaaan! tour de force. If you're curious about the Trek guest list, you can check out our previous articles (here & here) with the current list. One side note, Subspace Communique favorite Natalia Nogulich won't be in attendance. She's in New York working on David Mamet's new biopic (about Phil Spector) for HBO starring Al Paccino & Dame Helen Mirren. We're sad she won't be there, but dang, what an awesome gig! Recently, Creation released the full schedule for the convention and we've posted it here for your Khhaaan! pleasure. Check out the details below. Oh, and, it's a long post. You've been warned!
Star Trek: The Re-Experience. Commander Tahryn Is Drawn Back To The 21st Century... And She's Not Happy.
If you've been to this site before, you know that we bemoan the closing of Star Trek: The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton. Like so many of you, we pine for the day of it's return. In the meantime, it seems a certain Andorian has been brought back through the wormhole to 21st century Las Vegas. Well, the suburbs of Vegas and she's not thrilled about it. Star Trek: The Experience actor, and friend of Subspace Communique, April Hebert reprises her role as the vivacious and ultimately annoyed Commander Tahryn in this special video produced by fellow Star Trek: Experience actor and unofficial historian Vernon Wilmer.
According to the Star Trek: My Experience Facebook fan page; In this special video made just for the 2011 convention, Commander Tahryn is dragged back through the temporal rift by curious fans at a homemade "Star Trek The Experience" shrine and quizzed on the whereabouts of her alien colleagues. She's back, and she's pissed! Watch out pinkskins...
Star Trek: The Next Generation On Blu-ray & Remastered?
The rumor-mill seems to think so. We've been waiting for this since we first got wind of The Original Series being remastered and released in high-def. Since Next Gen was originally shot on film and post production's output for the final episodes were on video, the special effects throughout the series would need to be remastered before the show could ever make it to blu-ray. According to The Digital Bits secret stash of comic-con sources, CBS is indeed working on a remastered version of the series, with a 4 episode demo disc that might be available to fans soon.
A Very Happy Birthday To Star Trek's Mike Okuda
We would like to wish a very happy birthday to Mike Okuda. He has been responsible for a myriad of things throughout the various Trek incarnations since the mid-1980s starting with Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Mike gained notoriety for his work on Star Trek: The Next Generation as a scenic artist / technical consultant and for designing the futuristic graphical user interface (LCARS or Okudagrams) used throughout the TNG era and all the way to DS9. I would also like to personally thank Mike and give him credit for inspiring me to work professionally in the graphic arts and user interface design. Thanks Mike, your work has inspired an entire generation of graphics professionals!
Star Trek TNG's Michael Dorn Set To Fortify "Castle"
Does everyone remember how Worf schooled Duras in the TNG episode "Reunion"? And, by schooled we mean he took that cowardly Klingon to the woodshed with a bat'leth... Duras went out like a suckah! Let's hope that Michael Dorn doesn't do the same to his future co-star Nathan Fillion on the hit detective drama Castle.
That's right ladies and gents, our favorite Russian raised Klingon security officer is set to play a psychiatrist in at least two episodes. According to DigitalSpy, Michael Dorn's new character will help Detective Kate Beckett (Played by Stana Katic) deal with being shot in the third season finale, but her sessions may also examine her relationship with Castle.
Archived Transmissions: New Star Trek Series To Launch... Circa 1977
Cruising around the web, performing our ubiquitous Star Trek searches that we do on regular basis, we ran across a new service from our friends at Google. It seems that their fine cadre of engineers & magicians have started archiving old newspapers from around the country, possibly the world, and we've found some Trek gold, or latinum as it were. According to the Deseret News, circa June 18th 1977, Star Trek is to launch a new series! We're guessing that the article is talking about the ill-fated Star Trek Phase II that eventually got rolled into Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
Buried amongst the various stories about the early shuttle program, lingering Watergate appeals, outbreaks of legionnaires disease in Olympia, Washington, and ads for plywood (sold by the trusty folks at Ketchum's) is a brief AP story mentioning the re-launch of our beloved sci-fi series. "Hopefully it will be even superior to the early Star Trek shows" Says The Great Bird of the Galaxy, Gene Roddenberry. Adding that he would like to "use as many of the faces as possible, as well as an infusion of new ones."
Creation Entertainment Filming New Documentary At Las Vegas Star Trek Convention; Directed By William Shatner
We're getting stoked about the upcoming Creation Entertainment Star Trek Las Vegas convention that we so lovingly call Vegas Khhaaan! Not only will it be an awesome opportunity to catch up with all of our friends & readers, but this year Creation has something special up it's sleeve. We just got word that they will be filming a TV documentary pilot called FAN ADDICTS that will be directed by Captain Kirk himself, William "Mother Lovin'" Shatner. Much like last year, where The Shat ran around with a camera crew filming The Captains, his Kirkness will be on site throughout the weekend filming segments for the show.
Creation is putting out a call for Trek fans to participate; We invite our entire Vegas audience to participate in the filming on site. Bill has some amazing things planed for the shoot. Watch it all unfold, LIVE, next Thursday through Sunday, August 11th- 14th, ONLY at Creation Entertainment's Official 45th Anniversary Star Trek convention.
