Star Trek XI was practically snubbed this year by Oscar and his Hollywood cronies.  One category though, proves to be a possible win for J.J. and crew, Best Makeup.  Leading the award nominated team is legendary Makeup artist Barney Burman. 

William "The Shat" Shatner is being honored at the Banff World Television Festival with their lifetime achievement award.  We assume the award is meant to honor his ability to create an adhoc cannon and mortally wound a gorn with it.  The Banff World Television Festival is the world's premiere television content creation event and annual forum for business and creative opportunities for those in television and new media.

Our good buddy Jerad "Super_Spock" Formby dropped another fantastic edition of his Golden Globe (we read the somewhere...) nominated Star Trek blog "Hey, Star Trek!".  This time, Jerad gives us a report of the good times had by all and a few missteps on Star Trek Online.

The last time we visited this topic, admittedly, the post was not serious in anyway and was written without experience with the game.

The mystery of Andrew Koenig's disappearance and untimely passing played out all of the internet these last few weeks.  Many online gathered together to help find and then morn Andrew, including several Trek universe and tv / movie stars.  As reported by MTV News, several stars expressed the sympathies and grief via Twitter when learning the terrible news.

"RIP Andrew Koenig, missing since Valentine's Day, was found dead in Vancouver, Canada," fellow '80s child star Alyssa Milano tweeted. She also urged her followers to help anyone they know with similar issues to Koenig's: "If you know someone suffering from depression, please do everything in your power to get them help. R.I.P. Andrew."

Starship Farragut: The Animated Episodes just released Act I1 of their new episode "The Needs of the Many".  Written by Michael Struck (Owner, NEO f/x) and Jack Trevino (Writer, DS9), "Needs" has the crew of the Farragut warping to Cestus III on a secret mission for the Federation.  If you haven't watched Act I of "The Needs of the Many" be sure to download and watch it here.

The Spirit of Star Trek is a monthly educational series exploring the spiritual, philosophical, moral and ethical implications of Star Trek, held at the First Presbyterian Church, Encino. The series is co-hosted by Academy Award-winning makeup artist Michael Westmore and Rev. Curtis Webster. Each month, they screen an episode from one of the five Star Trek series and then discuss the episode with a special guest (or guests) associated with the episode.

Andrew Koenig, son of Walter Koenig and star of several TV appearances (including a long running stint on "Growing Pains" and a guest appearance on DS9) was found dead from an apparent suicide.  Andrew had gone missing in Vacouver, British Columbia on February 16th, sparking a flury of activity on the internet and among Trek fans, who tried to help solve the mystery. 

Andrew's body was discovered around 11:30 am today in the 1,000-acre Stanley Park, a favorite place for Koenig to frequent during his visits to Vancouver.

"My son took his own life," his father, Walter Koenig, said in an emotional news conference in the park.

Trekcast, oh Trekcast, Where for art thou?  It's only been two weeks since we've had our weekly does of all things Trekcast, and we need it bad, real bad.  Okay, sorry that went a little too far.  Sorry if we made you feel uncomfortable.  To be honest, we feel a little strange about it too.  Anyway... As we reported earlier this week, Andrew Koenig (son of Walter Koenig) has been missing for nearly two weeks.  He was last seen at a bakery in Vancouver's Stanley Park neighborhood Feb 14, but may have left warning signs when he returned personal items to his friend and colleague filmmaker Lance Micci on February 2nd.

"I asked him to work on a couple gigs last time we spoke (Feb. 4), and he just refused. It was unusual. He was kind of fed up with the Hollywood business," Miccio said.
