According To The Shat, His Star Trek Documentary "The Captains" Is "Being Edited As We Speak"
Set for release sometime next year, William Shatner's "The Captains" documentary is coming close to completion. The Shat discussed his new documentary at both Vegas Khhaaann! & Plano Fan Days this, giving little details about the film. Heck, he even filmed portions of the documentary while walking around in the crowds in Vegas. If you don't know about "The Captains", it focuses on the lives of all five Trek captains with full interviews from each.
"We've got a great film, there's a lot of it and we're passionately putting it together. We'll have it ready in the near future. There are extensive interviews and there will be a lot of clips involving actors who played the captain on Star Trek and what elements unify us and what things are divergent about us. There's a great deal that is common among the actors, their experience, their temperaments." Says Shatner
Geek Fights Podcast Episode 27: Best Star Trek Episode Part Deux
The amazingly daunting task continues. After episode 1 of "Best Star Trek Episode Ever" the Geek Fighters have whittled the alpha bracket down to DS9's "In the Pale Moonlight". A fantastic episode, yes, but will it stand up against...... Thought I was going tell you, didn't you? You'll just have to listen to the latest fantastic and ultimately Trek geek-centric episode of Geek Fights. In this episode you can hear the slowly deepening, sickly voice of your's truly. I'm joined by Jerad "Hey Star Trek! / super_spock" Formby, Michael Felsher, and Geek Fights hosts Damon Shaw, & Mike Ortiz. Good times and lots of laughs will be had by all. On top of the all the Trek goodness, you can also enjoy listening to me mispronounce Corbomite, talk about Charles Bronson, confuse "Where No Man Has Gone Before" with "Where No One Has Gone Before", and finally explain how Jeffrey Combs was on a show called "The 3300" (That's the 4400). Some of the content might not be suitable for younger ears, but seriously though, there are some really great and insightful discussions happening in the episode that you won't want to miss. Check out the details below.
Data Feed: Happy Birthday To Star Trek DS9's Nicole de Boer
Happy birthday to Nicole de Boer, she turns 40 today. Many of you remember Nicole as the second incarnation of Dax (or is that 11th); Ezri Dax from the last season of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. After leaving DS9, Nicole went on to star opposite Anthony Michael Hall in "Stephen King's Dead Zone" from 2002 to 2007. According to IMDB, she also has several upcoming TV movies in the works.
Something we didn't know, she also had a small role in the Kids in the Hall movie "Brain Candy". Hailing from the Great White North, just like the "Kids", Nicole is currently married to film score composer John Kastner. We'd like to give warm birthday wishes to Nicole. Happy birthday.
Hat tip to Cmdr. Torkadon for giving us a heads up.
Star Trek Rock…No Longer Just For Space Hippies
When we used to think of Star Trek music, it immediately called to mind one of two things, either space hippies (yeah brother) or the TOS theme. That “image” has now changed in our brains forever. While at the Starbase Indy convention in Indianapolis recently, we had the great pleasure of seeing Five Year Mission perform live. We had no idea what to expect as we watched them take the stage sporting their original series styled uniforms and picking up their instruments. As soon as they began playing, though, we realized we were in for a great treat.
Star Trek’s Holodeck, So Close We Can "Virtually" Taste It.
Okay fellow Trek Fans, “hold on to yer hats and glasses, cuz this here’s the wildest ride in the Universe!” Star Trek predicts (or is that, directs) the future once again. We just found reports of a functional holodeck. Notice we didn’t say “fully” functional, as it doesn’t have force-field or replicator technology yet, but with the aid of fancy 3D glasses it’s pretty close. …Computer, Arch!
This Holodeck is actually the Duke immersive Visual Environment (DiVE), a six-sided structure that, when sealed, becomes a seamless virtual reality atmosphere built to enhance teaching, research and design planning. The chamber is 10 feet on each side. Each wall, including the floor and ceiling, functions as a large computer screen. Six computers control full-color projectors - one per wall - and a seventh is the master computer.
A New Comedy Short Film Narrated by Star Trek’s George Takei, “Oh My!”
A new comedy short film by Derek Nguyen called “The Potential Wives of Norman Mao” is being completed now, and is Executive Produced and Narrated by none other than Star Trek’s George Takei.
Here’s how the filmmakers describe the film: Norman Mao is an overweight, and socially-awkward man-child from Hong Kong, who at the age of 33 is still unwed. Desperate to get him married, his parents take him on an international junket across the globe to find him a worthy Chinese wife. The Maos arrive to a New York City hotel, which is their final stop on their trip and their last hope to find Norman a bride. Having hired a professional matchmaking service, the Maos meet with three matches for Norman. Will one of these women be a potential wife for Norman or is he destined to lead a terribly lonely life?
