NASA’s Mars Curiosity Rover Videos with Shatner And Wheaton For Your Listening Pleasure

Just in case you have your head in a hole in the ground, here’s some cool Trek news that’s all over the interwebs. It seems that William Shatner and Wil Wheaton are each narrating a short video for NASA’s Mars Curiosity Rover that explains, in layman’s terms, the complex landing sequence in this new and exciting interplanetary mission.

Tom Hardy "Nemesis" Screen Test Surfaces On Youtube

Tom Hardy "Nemesis" Screen Test Surfaces On Youtube

This has been bouncing around the net as of late, but I found it rather entertaining and thought I would share it with you, gentle reader. Heh, that was almost poetic... Almost. Moving on. Star Trek: Nemesis is one of those like it or hate it Trek movies. We see it as missed potential. One thing you can't really argue is the fantastic chemistry between Patrick Stewart and Tom Hardy. The Picards duke it out scene after scene in an almost Shakespearean duel.

William Shatner To Throw First Pitch At L.A. Dodgers Inaugural Star Trek Night August 3rd

The Shat throwing a baseball? Yup. It's the inaugural Star Trek Night at Dodger Stadium Friday, August 3rd at 7pm. I gotta say, it's pretty darn cool to see the Dodgers embracing Trekdom. Not only will you get to see William "Sir Billiam" Shatner throw the first pitch, but if you order tickets now, you'll get a special edition Star Trek / Dodgers themed t-shirt. Which is actually pretty dope. So, just thinking in hypotheticals, but how awesome would it be to have the Gorn at bat for that first pitch? Maybe The Shat can run up and do a double jump kick over home plate. Check out the full description below and a pic of the sweet tee.

"Oh, the incredible skepticism" Jonathan Frakes Reflects On the Launch Of Star Trek: The Next Generation

"Oh, the incredible skepticism" Jonathan Frakes Reflects On the Launch Of Star Trek: The Next Generation

It blows my mind to think that Star Trek: The Next Generation's pilot episode "Encounter at Farpoint" debuted nearly 25 years ago. I can vividly remember watching it Saturday night on a console TV in our game room. Everyone else in my family wanted to watch 227 or some other 80's sitcom abomination, so I was relegated to our old TV next to the ping pong table. I was fascinated by "Farpoint" and was quickly hooked on the new series. Sure, it was a little rough the first few seasons, but there were still gem episodes that captured my young imagination.

Cyborgs Not Welcome At Paris MacDonald's? Data Asks, "How About Androids?"

Cyborg's Not Welcome At Paris MacDonald's? Data Asks, "How About Androids?"

We've been following Dr. Steve Mann's wearable computing and augmediated reality work since the mid 90's. In fact, some say he's the father of the wearable computer. We'll all that street cred does little on the mean rues of Paris, France. Steve and his family recently went into a local Parisian MacDonald's for a royale with cheese (actually a ranch wrap) and allegedly got roughed up by Ronald and his staff. Is he still named Ronald in France? Anyway, if you're not familiar with Steve Mann's work, he's been wearing a computer vision system of some kind for past 34 years and originally created this technology, and the computer vision algorithms (e.g. HDR = High Dynamic Range), to help people see better.

Someone Conned "The Con of Wraith" Out Of Filming Equipment... And How You Can Help

As I'm sure many of you know, our friend and Trek historian, Larry Nemecek, is in mid-stream making his new documentary The Con of Wrath. Well, a little misfortune befell the "Wrath" crew while on a shoot in Houston. Larry and his team were busy gathering some fantastic footage from an Ultimate Fantasy survivor in the wee hours of the morning, and in between load up trips 15 feet from the front door, someone swiped a bag containing an integral part of the whole documentary process... the unique specialty camera lens that is the look and feel of the whole sha-bang! Not only does this shutter The Con of Wrath field shooting for the time being, but it also stunts the growth of several other indie projects. I'll let The Con of Wrath's director of photography Neal Hallford explain.
