Star Trek XII, or "Star Trek 2" as some call it, is a little more than a year out from beaming into theaters and we're definitely looking forward to seeing Chris Pine and the gang back in action.  We've been shying away from reporting on Star Trek XII simply because the quality of news about the sequel in the rebooted franchise has been less than stellar, pun intended.  Sure, secrecy is important.  We get that.  We're just a little less than excited about filling Subspace Communique with a constant stream of drips and drabs of news about J.J. Abrams's next blockbuster.  Until now... That's right it's your Ubiquitous Star Trek XII News Roundup.

J.J. Abrams says that Star Trek XII will start shooting soon...  According to an interview with MTV News (Via Digital Spy) J.J. is looking forward to getting back "Star Trek" after wrapping "Super 8".  "The truth is that my focus has been so much on finishing Super 8 that it's been something I'm looking forward to getting to, but with an incredibly compressed post schedule, there hasn't been a whole lot of time for me to be working with the writers," Abrams explained to MTV News.  He continues, "Now that Super 8 is drawing to a close in terms of this post schedule, I'm looking forward to jumping in and hopefully getting that ready as soon as possible."

You might want to step on it a little, J.J., June 29, 2012 is just around the corner.  Not to mention that we'd like to see the next installment before the end of the world.  Yes, that was a lame 2012 reference.  Moving on...

Anoton Yelchin tells Collider that he's excited about sporting the yellow tunic again (our words, not his).   "Sure. I haven’t read the script, but I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what it is. It will be a lot of fun to play the character again, do all the research again and do all the homework. Also, it’s a great group of people. It’s one thing when you’re going back to a movie and you’re like, “Oh, god, I’ve got to work with these people again.” But, it’s such a great group. I enjoyed working with them all so much that I look forward to seeing them all again and working with them."

Also with all of the rumors floating around about Paramount demanding 3D in Star Trek XII, when asked, Anton shed virtually no light on the subject.  "One thing that’s fundamental is that you can really see the difference when someone converts to 3D or shoots in 3D. We shot Fright Night in 3D, so we shot it with 3D cameras, which is really one camera with two cameras on it. It makes a big difference, I think. You can tell when a movie was made with the idea of 3D. I don’t really think about it. What’s most fundamental is that the movie itself is good, and then 3D is one of those things that you layer on top of it. You can use it to make certain parts of the movie more exciting, but if the movie isn’t good, then you’re not going to care about the 3D either."
