How they seem to know that they should open when someone is heading in their direction to enter or exit the room, but to stay closed when someone is merely passing by. I’m not saying that it’s actually operated by several pairs of unseen hands always on the opposite side of the wall than our viewing angle or anything… but their discernment is (generally) uncanny. Have you ever noticed how the universal translator seems to know (on its own) when the speaker wants the listener(s) to hear what they are saying in the speaker’s original language? I’ve been using this thing my whole life and then the other day it dawns on me, “hey wait a minute, why isn’t Qapla’ translated into English for me?” I mean really, it’s totally a translatable word, but for some reason I still hear it as Qapla’.
