We're not for posting every rumor about the upcoming J.J. Abrams Star Trek sequel, but we found this pretty darn interesting. According to MercuryNews.com (San Jose Mercury News), J.J. & Co. are filming scenes for Star Trek 2 at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (in Livermore, California) this week.

As reported in the article; "We do have a film crew on site, known only as the HH project. We are not allowing media on the set, per their request," lab spokeswoman Lynda Seaver said in an email Tuesday.  The segments are being filmed in the lab's National Ignition Facility, or NIF, said Dale Kaye, president of the Livermore Valley Chamber of Commerce and a Livermore Valley film commissioner.

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center founded by the University of California in 1952. LLNL is self-described as "a premier research and development institution for science and technology applied to national security." (source)

Maybe they're replacing the obvious brewery / engineering section of the Enterprise with something a bit more scientific. Then again maybe not. Last we heard J.J. had once again scheduled filming at the local Budweiser brewery. I guess only time will tell where this filming location will end up in the film.
