J.J. Abrams Is "Focused" On Star Trek XII, But We May Not See It Until 2013
We've been a bit hesitant to post news about the upcoming sequel to J.J. Abrams's Star Trek simply because there's been a real lack of it. Sure, we've seen that Zachary Quinto is shifting into gear for his return as Spock and that Anton Yeltchin is excited about returning to his role as Chekov. Oh, and the news of Benicio Del Toro being courted for a possible villain role (more on that in a few days) but not much real news is being shared about Star Trek XII. I did find something today that I found at least somewhat newsworthy, it seems that the next installment of the J.J.verse is being pushed back from it's June 29th, 2012 release date to sometime in 2013.
According to a report from ScreenRant & THR, Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman said that J.J. is "focused on developing the next installment of our Star Trek franchise" for a "potential release in 2013". It's kind of a bummer, really. We were hoping that we would be able to see Kirk & company sooner rather than later.
Just as an FYI, we're always on the lookout for news about XII. We just don't want to flood the site with constant rumors or speculation on the next film. We're definitely looking forward to it; we're just not hanging on every little drip that slowly emerges from Paramount or the blogosphere. Yikes, I just used the word blogosphere... Wasn't that a movie with Paulie Shore?
