Youtube Video Round-up: The James Doohan Edition

Youtube Video Round-up: The James Doohan Edition

As I was thinking over a few ideas for an article tonight, I realized that we have yet to honor our favorite Scotsman in the appropriate fashion. So, ladies, gents, and all trans-gender species, it's time for the... Youtube Video Round-up: James Doohan edition. As a young trek fan, I don't think that there was a cast member I tried to imitate more than Scotty. From the ubiquitus "I haven't got the power" to "Aye, the haggis is in the fire for sure", I tried them all.

It wasn't until much later in my Trek fandom that I really got to know how important James Doohan, or Jimmy as his friends would call him, was to the Trek universe. As many of you know, Jimmy was responsible for many of the voices on "Star Trek: The Animated Series" and even derived the Klingon & Vulcan languages used in "Star Trek: The Motion Picture". Jimmy was also a decorated WWII veteran, surviving the beaches of Normandy and later becoming a pilot with the Royal Candian Air Force.

Jimmy was also particularly wonderful with Trek fans. From all the things we've read over the years, he's most beloved by fans for his warmth and generosity. With all of these things in mind, we would like to pay tribute to the best Chief Engineer the 23rd century had to offer as well as the real life hero; James Doohan AKA Montgomery Scott.

One of the absolute best moments in "Trekkies"

What would Jimmy do.. if he were captain

Here's a wonderful interview with Jimmy from a series of original cast member interviews.

"I haven't got the power!" - British TV commercial

Jimmy had a diverse acting career before Star Trek. Here he is in "Gunsmoke".

Jimmy receives his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

James Doohan on "The Ben Stiller Show" circa 1992

And, a fitting end to our Round-up. A wonderful tribute to James Doohan; WWII veteran & hero.
