Roddenberry Entertainment's "White Room: 02B3" wins Innovative Filmmaking Award At Burbank International Film Festival
We first heard of the groundbreaking Roddenberry Entertainment film project White Room: 02B3 back at Vegas Khhaaan! 2011 and have been intrigued since. After its international premiere in London earlier this year, White Room has made the rounds landing at San Diego Comic-Con in July and recently appearing at the Burbank International Film Festival. Not only did the film wow audiences with its 360-degree HD panoramic video, it also took home the festival's President’s Award for Innovation in Filmmaking.
“Roddenberry is known for taking strides into new technologies and pushing entertainment boundaries. With White Room we are certainly at the nascent of a new era in filmmaking,” said Rod Roddenberry, executive producer. “Roddenberry is known for its iconic exploration of the human condition, and this filmmaking technology lets us examine the human experience from, literally, every angle.”
Next up, White Room: 02B3 will be heading to the San Diego Film Festival September 26th and 360-degree dome theaters later this year. There's also rumor of an upcoming app that enables fans to have the 360 dome experience from their own smart device. You can find more info at the official website or the full press release below.
BURBANK, Calif.; September 10, 2012 — Roddenberry Entertainment, the successor of the science fiction pioneer that brought television and film audiences Star Trek, announced today that White Room: 02B3 was honored with the President’s Award for Innovation in Filmmaking at the Burbank International Film Festival, an annual event that champions independent filmmaking. Starring Breckin Meyer, Tamlyn Tomita, David Blue and Rachel True, as well as Internet icons Tony Janning and Milynn Sarley, White Room: 02B3 is about six strangers who wake up in a white room to find out they are part of a bizarre experiment that could help change the face of humanity forever
“With White Room: 02B3, Roddenberry Entertainment continues to push the boundaries of cinematic filmmaking, much like Gene Roddenberry did with Star Trek. They boldly go where no filmmakers have gone before in creating a 360-degree version of this groundbreaking movie,” said Burbank International Film Festival President and Director Jeff Rector. "WhiteRoom is innovative, in its concept, scope and creativity. I am proud to honor White Room: 02B3 with the President's Innovation Award.”
While White Room: 02B3 is touring film festivals in its flat theater format, in the coming months Roddenberry will launch it as an immersive cinematic trailblazer in 360-degree dome theaters around the country and as a mobile interactive experience through smart devices. The White Room App will be the first interactive encounter with a narrative film that will simulate the dome experience by allowing the viewer to look around the room and engage with any character at any point in the story simply by rotating his/her body.
