Stick It To The Cardies And Make Your Own Hasperat

Let me just state this up front, I dig spicy food. From Mexican to Thai to India and all points in-between, I've tried to kill my taste buds and sinuses with everything hot from all corners of the globe. So when a Bajoran orders hasperat I find myself wanting to get my hands on that interstellar burrito (wow, that came out wrong).  So, I did some searching and wouldn't you know it; I found a few different recipes for that Bajoran delicacy. Ro Laren probably wouldn't approve of these earthly substitutes, but since we're fresh out of Bojoran brine, we'll just have to make do. The first recipe was found over at food.com and based on looks alone, is pretty dang close to the really thing. Check out the full ingredients below and follow the links for the preparation directions. I didn't want to rip off the entire recipe and not have you visit the source... Ya know, blogger etiquette and all.

Ingredients: (makes 2 hasperat)
2 large flour tortillas
1/4 avocado, peeled and thinly sliced
1/2 cup shredded monterey jack cheese
1/4 cup spinach
1/2 cup hot pickled vegetables, chopped
3 tablespoons chopped red onions
1/2 cup cream cheese
sriracha sauce or any hot sauce
(source Food.com)

In all it should take about 10 mins to make and seems relatively healthy. Be sure to check out the directions here.

The second recipe that I found is for you all of you vegans out there. I'm guessing this would exclude the Klingons...

Ingredients: (also makes 2 hasperat)
2 10? Wheat Tortillas
1/2 Cup Hummus (Any flavor, plain or horseradish is nice)
1 Small Cucumber, sliced very thin (about 1/2 cup)
1 Carrot, shredded (about 1/3 cup)
1 1/2 Tbs Tamari (or regular soy sauce)
1 1/2 Tbs Rice Vinegar
Black Pepper
2 Small Handfuls Baby Spinach
Hot Chili Sauce/Tabasco, optional
(souce VeganYumYum)

Well, they say hot chili sauce is optional, but we all know that hasperat HAS to be spicy. Check out the full directions over at VeganYumYum.

If you end up making either of these, let us know how it goes. We'll probably be trying one of them out over the weekend. Take that, Gul Dukat!!
