Happy 45th Anniversary To Star Trek, Continuing To Go Boldly...
So I have something to admit first and foremost... I would have written this article earlier tonight, but I lost track of time watching the Star Trek: The Original series episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before". Which, really brings me to the point of this article. Exactly 45 years ago today Star Trek: The Original Series, or just Star Trek, as it was known, took to the airwaves. Gene Roddenberry's dream and vision took shape and graced America's living rooms and it hasn't been the same since. I don't mean that in a negative way of course. Star Trek has had a much farther reach and impact than anyone at the time could have imagined.
"Where No Man Has Gone Before", you ask? Yes, it was intended to be the first episode aired, but NBC, in it's infinite wisdom, decided to show "The Man Trap" instead. Not that I don't enjoy the "The Man Trap", but I felt that on the 45th anniversary I would celebrate by watching the first episode that Gene intended.
Let's really think about this... how different would the world be without Star Trek? Some may say that it was merely a TV show, but you and I know very differently. From inspiring generations of scientists, astronauts, engineers, doctors, and the like to showing that the human race has great potential. Star Trek gave hope to those living in the very turbulent sixties, when many were worried about tomorrow. I'm not trying to sound cliche here by any means, it's just amazing to think about the true impact of Star Trek.
We can take great comfort in the fact that for 45 years something very near to our hearts has made the world a better place. So we celebrate with all of you out there 45 years of something absolutely amazing. We celebrate the 45th anniversary of Star Trek... Still boldly going where no one has gone before.
Now, stop reading this and go watch some Trek!
