Calling Iowa Trek Fans, The Voyage Home - Riverside History Center Needs Your Help
Riverside Iowa has staked the claim several years ago, as the future birth place of our beloved Captain James T. Kirk. Now they're calling all Trek fans in the general area for volunteer help with The Voyage Home - Riverside History Center. The center hosts displays featuring historical items relating to Riverside, as well as an entire room dedicated to Star Trek.
"The museum is looking for volunteers and interns who can help staff the museum and use their creativity to build displays", board vice president Phil Richman said.
In the history area of the museum, they are looking for volunteers with artistic skills or those who have ideas for developing displays. They recently added a replica of the old Hyland Palace dance hall, built by Lloyd Weber, and hope to build a replica of the town with the railroad tracks, he said.
"Anybody who is artistic can always help out," Richman said.
For people who enjoy "Star Trek," volunteering at the museum is an opportunity to work with memorabilia, watch episodes and talk to other fans.
"The more you know about 'Star Trek,' the better," Said Richman. "It's just a lot of fun sitting in here visiting with people."
The town is also looking for help with it's annual Trek Fest. This year's event is scheduled to include appearances by Walter Koenig, who played Chekov, James Cawley, who played Capt. Kirk (in Star Trek, New Voyages) and BarBara Luna, who played Lt. Marlena Moreau.
