Star Trek Online Console Bound? Not Anytime Soon.

Online Console Bound? Not Anytime Soon.

Apparently my new thing is asking a question and answering it in the same article title.  Well, now that I've addressed it, it won't happen again.  Isn't that the first step to recovery? Admitting you have a problem?  Anyway, we reported back in October that Cryptic Studios could run ST:O and Champions Online on modern consoles.

From the article in October 09: Craig Zinkievich, the executive producer on Star Trek Online, had a long interview with Eurogamer and he stated that “I mean Champions runs on the console right now; Star Trek Online runs on the consoles right now; our engine - the Cryptic Engine - runs on the consoles. So I can guarantee that internally I can have Star Trek Online running on the consoles because I know I can, and we've done it.”

Now it turns out that the idea for an XBOX 360 and PS3 version of ST:O has been scrapped due to "the business side of things".

Speaking to VideoGamer.com, executive producer Craig Zinkievich said the console version of STO had met the same fate as the console version of Champions Online.

"It's pretty much in the same boat as the Champions console version right now," he said.

"It's something we can readily do in terms of technology. We've had it up and running on certain consoles, and had plans and designs in order to take advantage of those platforms. But as it stands right now it's a little difficult to make that final leap on the business side of things. So, currently, just like Champions, the console version of Star Trek Online is on the back burner."  (source Videogamer.com)
