Cryptic Studios held a press conference demo for Star Trek Online at GameCon 2009. During the demo, it was revealed that the Borg have indeed returned to the Alpha Quadrant and no matter what species you choose to play, you will either be in Starfleet or the Klingon Defense Force. Now, whether or not that last statement is true or just a slip of the tongue, is to be seen. Keep reading; we delve further into the confusion.

IGN has posted a video of the press conference with some fantastic in-game video. One thing in particular that excited us was use of existing Trek sound effects. The phasers and photon torpedoes sound like the real deal.

There is one confusing part, it seems that there are Romulan ships shown fighting in the press conference video. Does this mean that the Romulans have officially joined the Federation?.  Considering the destruction of Romulas during the Hobus incident, that would make sense.  Although further in the video it does show Federation and Romulan ships battling it out and I can't imagine the Klingons and Romulans joining forces.

Here's another thought, maybe the Romulans are strictly AI and separate from player controlled characters.  Your guess is as good as mine. I'm sure it will all be made clear in a future installment of the Path to 2409

Did we mention that the Guardian of Forever is shown in the video?  Oh, we didn't?.....   Yeah, we're excited too.
