Armin Shimerman To Direct Shakespeare In The Park

Our favorite ferengi is set to direct Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night' in West Hollywood at Fiesta Hall Courtyard in Plummer Park.  The production will run now through August 23rd.

The City of West Hollywood and Classical Theatre Lab present the third season of FREE Shakespeare in the Park with a production of “Twelfth Night, or What You Will,” directed by Armin Shimerman, Shakespearian scholar and “Quark” from the Star Trek: Next Generation series and films.

Shakespeare’s classic comedy will open Saturday, July 18th at 5 p.m. and run Saturdays and Sunday at 5 p.m. through August 23rd at Fiesta Hall Courtyard in Plummer Park.*

Familiar to television audiences around the world as “Quark” from “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” Shimerman is also a noted expert on Shakespearean scholarship and performance, having taught the subject for more than 20 years.

As an actor, he has appeared on Broadway and in regional theatre, performing at Lincoln Center, Circle in the Square, the American Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Connecticut, San Diego’s Old Globe Theater, the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis and the Mark Taper Forum here in Los Angeles, among many others.

“Twelfth Night” bubbles with love, wit and madness,” says Mr. Shimerman.

“Written in the middle of Shakespeare's career, it is the greatest of the Bard's pure comedies. All sorts of loves parade before our eyes in the play: The love of a man for a woman, the love of a man for a man, the love of a woman for a boy, the love of brother and sister, self-love, the love of wordplay, the love of a good fight, the love of a practical joke, and the love of God.

“Love engenders melancholy and we are enthralled by some of the sweetest, saddest language in the canon. We shudder even as we laugh,” said the director. (source Wehonews.com)
