Trekcast Gets National Spotlight

Trekcast Gets National Spotlight

To our surprise this morning, Trekcast was listed at the top of our Google news reader under the term 'Star Trek'.  Way to go guys!  Examiner.com just released an article covering the highest rated Star Trek podcast.  Check out the story below.

Now that JJ Abrams Star Trek has opened and other mega-blockbusters begin to grab headlines, one would think that Trek fans have quietly retired from the recent internet frenzy of fan discussion. Not so, says David Ivy of Trekcast.com, a Las Vegas based podcast that discusses Star Trek and science-fiction twice a week. “It’s a party all the time.”

Ivy and his wife Alicia decided to resuscitate his dormant podcast November of last year, two months after Las Vegas’ Star Trek: The Experience closed. They had moved to Vegas in August and experienced the joy and despair of the Experience closing. Wanting to maintain the friendships made in that time, Ivy invited Quark’s bartender Darren Benjamin to join him on a weekly podcast. Thinking he was merely tapping Benjamin’s tremendous knowledge of all things Trek, Ivy was delighted by the sci-fi mixer’s enthusiasm and support. “He’s amazing. He pushes the show all the time.”

A large network of Trek and Experience fans and anticipation for the new film provided a base for the podcast that is vocal and growing. “It was perfect timing,” says Ivy. The movie created or restored interest, got fans to watch and re-watch old episodes of the franchise’s various series and realize “they totally forgot that they liked them.” Ivy sees incredible excitement for Star Trek. “I can’t wait for the convention this summer, to see what has changed,” he says, referring to the popular Las Vegas Star Trek Convention, coming this August.
