Philadelphia Comic Con Coverage, For Losers Like Me

Philadelphia Comic Con Coverage, For Losers Like Me

As many of you may or may not know, this weekend Philadelphia, PA. is host to a ton of Trek & non-Trek stars alike. Another in the series of Comic Cons that seem to be spanning the US this year, the Philly Comic Con is giving us an amazing roster of captains, omnipotent beings, emissaries, & androids.

We were very fortunate to have a friend of the site cover the con for us. Camile, one of our good friends on twitter, lives in Philly and was kind enough to snap several photos for us and even video a Q&A session with none other than Brent Spiner.

For those unfamiliar, Crystal City is a neighborhood in the southeastern corner of Arlington County, Virginia, south of downtown Washington, D.C.

Limited Edition "Space Seed" Poster Sells Out In Record Time

We were literally kicking ourselves earlier for missing this, but apparently Mondo Tees has acquired carte blanche rights from CBS to create whatever merch they want within the Trek universe.  Their first release (which we didn't find out about until earlier today) is an amazing poster designed by renowned illustrator Martin Ansin.  On sale today, the limited edition poster (300 prints + 35 special edition wood variants) celebrates one of the most popular TOS episodes and villians, "Space Seed" & Khan Noonien Singh.

Steve Jobs Admits That He "Grew Up Watching Star Trek"

During the unveiling of the new Apple iPhone, Steve Jobs revealed his inner Trek Fan.  At the WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference) 2010 in San Francisco, the Apple CEO debuted the brand new iPhone 4 to the world listing a cadre of new features for the handheld device.

The new iPhone boasts a much higher resolution screen, faster processor, new form factor, two cameras, and video conferencing in it's list of features.  When showing off the new "Face Time" video conferencing app, Jobs revealed, “I grew up with The Jetsons and Star Trek, just dreaming about video calling. Now it’s real”

A brand new course is being offered at the University of Texas, El Paso featuring our favorite SciFi series.  Called "Thinking Boldly with Star Trek", the course is meant to help first-year students strengthen their academic talents through critical thinking.  It also appears that there will be episode viewing as part of the course curriculum.  Can we sign up just this course?

Rachel Weisz Would Love To Be In A Star Trek Sequel

Rachel Weisz Would Love To Be In A Star Trek Sequel

Known for a true gambit of film types and genres, Rachel Weisz has been everything from Mummy hunter to rumored Bond Girl in the next Danial Craig, James Bond film.  She's also slated to play the former First Lady in a Jackie O. biopic.  According to an interview with Collider.com, Rachel has a healthy interest in possibly starring in the next J.J. Abrams's installment of "Star Trek".  To us, that sounds like an interesting prospect.  Just one word of advice when mentioning our favorite Vulcan though; drop the "Dr." from "Dr. Spock".

John De Lancie & Robert Picardo To Host Star Trek: The Music

John De Lancie & Robert Picard Host Star Trek: The Music

Our favorite holographic doctor and omnipotent mischievous being are set to host a concert series in the Great White North (yes, everything we know about Canada we learned from Bob & Doug McKenzie).  The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony series called "Star Trek: The Music" is marked to play June 2nd & 3rd with after parties following both performances.  Tickets start at $25 Canadian.

Selections will include the theme from the original series, the theme from Voyager, the Klingon battle theme, selections of James Horner’s scores from The Wrath of Khan and more – highlights from the abundance of music accompanying five series and eleven feature films.

Delta Shield Shaped Audiophile Speakers For The Affluent Trek Fan

Delta Shield Shaped Audiophile Speakers For The Affluent Trek Fan

Just the mere shape of these speakers makes us want a pair.  Hand crafted by Danish Audio Company NAME REDACTED, the NAME REDACTED series of loudspeaker is part audiophile grade transducer and modern Danish furniture.  To us, it looks like a giant flippin' delta shield that WE MUST HAVE for our living room.  Of course, there's a catch (isn't there always).  Available in both black and walnut finishes, a set of Rithms will set you back about five grand.  According to the reviews we've seen, the speakers are worth their price tag for sound reproduction & aesthetics.

Calling Iowa Trek Fans, The Voyage Home - Riverside History Center Needs Your Help

Calling Iowa Trek Fans, The Voyage Home - Riverside History Center Needs Your Help

Riverside Iowa has staked the claim several years ago, as the future birth place of our beloved Captain James T. Kirk.  Now they're calling all Trek fans in the general area for volunteer help with The Voyage Home - Riverside History Center.  The center hosts displays featuring historical items relating to Riverside, as well as an entire room dedicated to Star Trek.

"The museum is looking for volunteers and interns who can help staff the museum and use their creativity to build displays", board vice president Phil Richman said.
