Star Trek XII Release Date Announced

Those hoping for a 2011 release date for the sequel to J.J. Abrams "Star Trek" have to wait a bit longer.  Paramount announced a tentative June 29th, 2012 for the opening of Star Trek XII.  As reported by ComingSoon.com, it's the only movie scheduled for that time frame so far.  We're pretty excited that Paramount and Bad Robot didn't decide on a quick turnaround.  The sequel needs time to be made right.  Plus, we're pretty sure that J.J., Roberto Orci, and Alex Kurtzman have lots on their plates.

According to a report from Wonderwall.msn.com, The Shat and J.J. recently "did lunch" at Spago (we made that last part up) and talked about The Shat returning to Trekdom.  Hmmm, we love The Shat, but we're not sure who we feel about shoehorning him into Star Trek XII.

William Shatner is in talks to return to the world of Star Trek, despite attacking director J.J. Abrams for leaving him out of his 2009 blockbuster prequel.

In a recent phone interivew with MTV Movie Blog, 'Star Trek' director J.J. Abrams talks about Star Trek XII needing to "evolve" and not become an "over the top, polemic, on-the-nose alegory".

Whew, we had to look a few of those up. Anyway, it's good to hear J.J. reassure us Trek fans that we're not in store for just any sequel.
